FAN-Pop Culture Group Topic-

◆◇FAN◇◆

For this presentation, my group picks AKB48 as the topic because lately they have extremely succeeded and you can see their ads everywhere anytime.

AKB48 is a female idol group which is produced by Yasuo Akimoto.
They are well known about their songs Ai Ta Katta(会いたかった) and Heavy Lotation(ヘビーローテーション).
You can watch their performance at AKB theatre in Akihabara, the top of the building of Don Quixote .

They seem to be very popular, yet they also seem to have some troubles with their own fans.
It probably because of their system of the position; AKB members have to get popularity to get higher position. Only high position members can show up on the TV, the music video, commersials and so on.
Some girls who could not be very popular were already fired by the producer.

So, some evil fans spread negative rumors of the members for getting down the popularity of high position members and raise their favorite members' position.

For example, one of the most well known members, Tomomi Itano(板野友美)has an awful rumor.
On the Internet, people often talk about she has had cosmetic surgery a lot.
This picture is often used when people talk about her face.

Another bad story is here; AKB48's fans buy tons of the same CDs which seems to creat fake popularity.
Some people upload pictures on the Internet that they bought too many same CDs.
Those websites introduce that kind of cases (sorry they are all in Japanese)
http://news4vip.livedoor.biz/archives/51792371.html
http://news4vip.livedoor.biz/archives/51792492.html

The reason wy they buy so many same CDs is, the CDs have a ticket to vote the favorite member.
AKB48 often counts the popularity of each members, and one of the ways to count the popularity is giving a ticket to vote each CD and fans vote for the favorite member.
Because the fans want to raise their favorite members' position, they buy CDs a lot and vote many times.
The fans often share those pictures on the Internet and show how they love their favorite member.

Conclusion;
Personally I am not a fan of AKB48. In fact I know only few names of the members.
Because they're lately extremely popular, and the fans often do something too much or too bad,  I think it's a kind of big issue.
AKB members are not doing something bad, but since they are very popular they get more attentions and troubles from people.

POP-CULTURE

Definition of POP-CULTURE

My definition of POP-CULTURE is youth culture, culture that exists currently like within 10 or 20 years or culture that is not traditional.
Anime could be one of the Japanese pop culture for me because mostly the funs of anime are young people.

JAPANESE POP-CULTURE and BROADCASTING WEBSITES

Recently, some of broadcasting websites show some anime, such as
ニコニコ動画
Gyao
. anime
You probably watch anime on TV, but you might sometimes miss for some reasons.
Before those website exist, what you have to do is looking for your friend who recorded it.
Now, you just need to go to those websites and look for what you miss.
After the anime had broadcasted on the TV, it also would be broadcasted on those websites for free for a week.
After the free term, you have to pay for it.

Ustream is right now trying  new thing.
From this spring, they have been broadcasting an anime TIGER&BUNNY.

Unlike other websites, you cannot watch the anime everyday on Ustream.
They're broadcasting it every Saturday night like other normal anime does on TV every week which is still new thing.

And, it's not directly related to this topic, but in this anime one of the character, SKY-HIGH has the logo of Ustream.
TIGER&BUNNY is a pretty unique anime; each main character has  sponsor logos.
The main character has SOFTBANK's logo, and his partner has BANDAI's logo.
One of the sub characters, ORIGAMI  CYCLON had only one spensor , . anime , when the anime have begun, but now he has TAKASU CLINIC and LIVEDOOR's logos too since he's became somehow one of the most popular characters!

Douglas Engelbart as a creater

*The words in orange color are hyperlinks.

Douglass Engelbart is a well-know as a revolutionary inventor of the modern computer.

According to an article,  Inventors of the Modern Computer,  written by Mary Bells, one of the most famous products that he's created is MOUSE.

This picture is the first mouse.

The first mouse has only one button. Also Mac mouse used to have only one button though....

Bells writes "In 1964, the first prototype computer mouse was made to use with a graphical user interface(GUI), 'windows'".
Windows is actually invented by Engelbert too.

Since he has done great works for the computer, he won Lemelson-MIT Prize of $ 500,000 in 1997.
In the next year, National Investors Hall of Fame lists his name in it in 1998.

Recently he has his own institute that is founded by his daughter, Christina Engelbart which called DOUG ENGELBART INSTITUTE.
The website says that the purpose is their organization is "Our mission is to accelerate progress toward this goal through broad-based collaboration, education, outreach, consulting, and hands on exploratory implementations. See Doug's call to action inAugmenting Society's Collective IQ and Bootstrap "Paradigm Map", with practical pointers and toolkits on our Bootstrapping Innovationresources page."

History of the Internet

Some words in orange color are the hyperlinks.

Mail
The first time I used the Internet was like 12 or 13 years ago.
I made my first email address from Hotmail which I no longer use.
According to an article "The History of The Internet" written by Cameron Chapman, "Email was first developed in 1971 by Ray Tomlinson, who also made the decision to use the "@" symbol to separate the user name from the computer name (which later on became the domain name)."
So, email is about 16 years older than me.

Now Gmail seems to be very popular for me, and I love it.
A lot of Universities and colleges, companies and some other organizations use gmail which has their original domains after@.
TUJ address is exactly one of them because it's basically gmail but has original domain which is "@temple.edu".

One of the reasons I love gmail is I can use gmail with some mail application such as "Mail"of Mac computer and iPhone.
I have a Macbook and iPhone, and I normally use gmail from the Mail application so that I don't need to open the web browser and type my account name and password all the time.
You can use either IMAP and POP with gmail.
I prefer IMAP because if you read a new message from one of  such devises, the message is no longer "new message" in any devises.
However, if it's POP the message is still "new" even you already read it from other devise and the Mail application keeps telling you that you have "new message"which is very annoying for me.

Emoticons
I don't remember when the first time I used emoticons, but at least I already used it when I was 15 years old.
According to the same article, "While many people credit Kevin MacKenzie with the invention of the emoticon in 1979, it was Scott Fahlman in 1982 who proposed using :-) after a joke, rather than the original -) proposed by MacKenzie. The modern emoticon was born."
I see some differences between Western and Japanese emoticons.
Western ones are like :) and XD.
Japanese ones are like (´・ω・`) and (*`ω´)
And in Japan, we have
this kind of emoticons that is  called "Asky Art" or just "AA" in Japanese.
And some of Japanese emotions have names.
For example, my favorite one (´・ω・`) is called "shobon", ショボーン or ショボン in Japanese.
It shows some feeling such as sadness, depression and disappointment.

Here, I introduce some popular AA characters which have names.

内藤ホライゾン or ブーン ( ^ω^) Naito Horizon or Boon

ドクオ ('A`) Dokuo

シャキン (`・ω・´) Shakin
       _
ジョルジュ長岡 ( ゚∀゚) Jhoru-Ju Nagaoka

杉浦ロマネスク ( ФωФ) Sugiura Romanesuku

兄者 ( ´_ゝ`) Anija( older brother)

弟者 (´<_` ) Otoja(younger brother)

モナー ( ´∀`) Monah

モララー ( ・∀・) Morarah

ギコ猫 ( ゚Д゚) Giko-cat

フサギコ ミ ゚Д゚彡 Fusa-giko

しぃ (*゚ー゚) Shi

つー (*゚∀゚) Tsu

斉藤またんき (・∀ ・)Saito Matanki

Those characters are often used when some people write their own novels which called Boon Novels(ブーン系小説).

Now you can see some products of those emoticons.
I do own one of the most popular products, shobon cushion.
You can also see those cushions in my dailyshoot assignment pictures.
